I sailed past this strange lump of metal sticking out of a field in October 2008. We had hired a dutch barge on the Shannon Erne waterway. We wondered what it was. I thought it looked like an excavator gib, but we couldn't work out why anyone would bury one there!
Now we know.
Thanks for this thread and the link. Really enjoyed watching it. Only the Irish would dig holes in a bog for charity.
After 20 years 15ft down, it ran too!
