hello martyn.
a week last saturday at about 06.30 a class 66 passed our place on its way to tower, as i watched it pass i was surprised to see a class 66 behind as well, but the engine was not running.what was happening there do you think.

Hello Graham
Its called top and tailing,it speeds up the return working and avoiding time to put the loco on the other end of the train, ie running around.This procedure is very common on ballast trains.On the return trip the leading loco is shut down and the previously trailing dead loco becomes the train loco.
Was that you I past at Cheively on the M4 this morning about 10 30 am.The Walters lowloader was London bound.?

yes it was me,i was on my way to luton.i thought i was going to be out for the night but there was a small d61px to be retuned to our yard for repair so i managed to get back.speak to you on weekend.

Hello Graham
I was on the way to Theale.Been a mad week this week done 1400 miles in the van in 4 days attending breakdowns.Finished up at Merco Westerleigh Bristol yesterday,called to the tank train.Used a roll of insulation tape to fix the loco.
