I took the photos while standing on a ladys head and she did not complain (Northumberlandia).
The site is slowly moving south so it should be easier to take photos but i am still shooting at max zoom.

Shotton Opencast
Re: Shotton Opencast
Hi Joe
Its a Sony HX9V its about 4 year old it only has a 16X zoom 24mm-384mm. the last photo was shot in Sweep Panorama mode, you just turn the camera from side to side and the camera stitches the photos together for you. It was the only way i could get everything in 1 photo. It also takes HD video in AVCD and MPEG4 and its nice and small W105mm x59mmx34mm. A few of the new compact cameras have x30 zooms

Re: Shotton Opencast
Sorry nicky i thought i had replied to your question, i did not see any scrapers.
Went to Shotton for the first time this year not a lot within range of the camera but noticed a couple of cranes at one side, came away cold and disappointed. Driving back home when noticed flashing lights coming the opposite way three low loaders with excavator parts, so after picking the tripod up i returned to shotton.
The two cranes are holding the track frame while it is attached to the crawlers, i wonder when the next bits will arrive ?
Mick.
