Re: jcb powertrain drive
Is the dump valve pedal (clutch pedal if you like)free and not stuck down? Also need to get underneath and check the cable from the pedal is moving and that the dump valve itself isn't stuck in. Should be 20 thou of clearance when the pedal is up and the valve pin is out.
If there's no drive in either direction, the suction strainer in the square box on the bottom of the shuttle unit may also be blocked as well as the paper cartridge filter in the external bowl.
Just to add, also check that the actual shuttle lever is moving the rotary spool on the shuttle box too.

Re: jcb powertrain drive
Do all the things that Agrimax has suggested and if and leave it running for a while with the gear box in neutral and move the shuttle and leave in forward and the reverse for a while to warm up and then see if there is any improvement. TBH I don't think the shuttle box is massively expensive to repair if you have a need for a digger. Is the machine quite straight or generally knackered?

Re: jcb powertrain drive
Cabs do go bad quickly, not a lot to get round that I'm afraid, I recommend you try to fix it yourself, then you'll feel better about it once done. If it's otherwise ok (tyres might be ok for now if your ground is not too bad, the front ones take a bit of finding) I would fix the drive issues, and if you decide not to you'll be better off selling than scrapping, the Powertrain models are very sought after by some folk and tend to be pricey. There were only some 6000 or so ever made.

I had not realised how few were made Sandy. They were the crossover between old and new. I always thought that with 4wd they would have been fantastic.

Re: jcb powertrain drive
The gear box is quite small and needs a 15w 40 like a Universal Tractor Transmission Oil. The shuttle requires different. It seems many use an ATF but the original spec was for a 10w transmission oil. The shuttle should be checked whilst the engine is at fast idle or immediately after stopping.

Re: jcb powertrain drive
I would renew the oils, you don't know what's in there. Torque convertor SAE 10W, Gearbox SAE 20W. Probably worth flushing through a bit to ensure no oil mixing occurs, don't run the engine to do that. Don't overfill the torque convertor.
