High all.
Today I acquired a JCB for the heritage railway, thought it was a 3c 111 (ID very scratchy plates missing etc) the reg plates are still on it (L reg) Had a look and compared it to the 3c111 that's already there, and the only difference I noticed was that the boom on the back actor is a lot heavier than the 3c111, I think it could be a 3d or something like, are there any more differences between the models? I'm asking in case they have to order any spares for it.

Re: JCB 3?
Norm it is too old on an L reg for a MK 111.
There is a time line on here in the back hoe section. If the hoe is heavier and sitting higher when folded in it might well be a 3D.
I assume the cab is a lower profile than the mk111 without the step through little lower door?

Re: JCB 3?
Don't know enough about their changes/models etc but it looks like I very soon will. Don't know about the cab, will have a good look at it on Tuesday. I do know it's making a sucking/gurgling noise coming from the hydraulic filter housing I'm guessing either short of oil or collapsed filter, I'll not Know till I have a good look at it. Thanks for the reply.

Norm, see if you can post a couple of pics of it, the 3D had chunkier back tyres than the 3C. I would check the hydraulic oil level if it's making a gurgling noise, it may need a top up, I think the sight glass is in the cab but I could be wrong on that.

Re: JCB 3?
Hi Jeremy.
I was too involved trying to dig out a tracked/untracked MF loader that had thrown a track and sunk in the ground over a year ago. I'm going to railway tomorrow, will get some pics then. The cab tin work is shot along the bottom (usual). It's all been measured up and getting fabbed this week as are the wheel guards.

Re: JCB 3?
Hi all.
I've determined that it's a 3C II going by some witness marks on the ID plates. It's parked along side a 3CIII, so today I noted the differences. Lighter front end on 3C II but heavier backhoe on 3CII and several other things I noticed. Anyway I took the rad out (leaking) and took the fan belt off cos It's shot.
I'm not as bendy as I used to be so it made the work quite err interesting. Anyway here's some pics. (I hope).

Re: JCB 3?
I'd go with it being a late 1970 or early '71 model. It is indeed a 3Cmk2. Full width dashboard(I think),early style side light and indicator lenses and yellow cab. The backhoe would be the same as the MK3 except for the kingpost and slew pots.

Re: JCB 3?
This machine has a problem with the slewing mechanism as in it doesn't slew, I can get one easy but not sure which model it's off. Any idea which models fit it. Just checked the DVLA and it's April 71.

Re: JCB 3?
Very similar to our first 3C which was an H reg but with long loader arms. I never realised that the king post and slew pots were different to the MK 111 that replaced it.
