It is a damning verdict and no doubt much of the comment on structure and drive line was right but it was still a promotional film for Case. After JCB I suppose we were more of a Ford area in this corner of UK and Case never seemed that popular.

Re: Retro Film Comparing the Case 580G and Ford 555
I havent watched the video yet but it seems funny as in the 80s there was a plant magazine which did a special article called Dig In, it compared a John Deere 410, Krammer, Ford 555, Mf50D, Fiat Allis, JCB 3CX, Case 580G and an Fia, The test bas digging a basement using the front loader, loading an 18 ton tipper front loader again, digging a very long trench and various other bits an pieces, the JCB came out top with the Ford a very close Second the Case was way down the line. I must watch the video now as i like both machines.

What's ironic about this video is case ended up buying ford witch became new holland about 10 years after this so they are commpairing the same company's product

Hi All,
It was a damning verdict on the Ford.
As Pete says it was a promotional film so perhaps we should take the verdict with a pinch of salt.
I never had a Ford 555 to compare but after the JCB3Cs went I did run a 4x2 Ford 550.
We were no stranger to Case as we ran the the 4x4 580Fs, 580Gs and eventualy a 580K.
I was happy with all, (but in fairness), I must say I think the Ford 550 punched well above its weight.
Fred

Seems Case picked a weaker competitor to make their comparisons with, now the Case v. the JCB may have been more interesting!
