I was told it was an automatic, but that was through a 3rd party (my lad) Seems he got his wires crossed with another machine the guy has...

I only drudged across the field to take a picture or two, and didnt have long to nose about.

Sounds like I will buy it then, as its below scrap value.

I take it the pump has to come off to replace the front shaft then ?? The rest of the machine is quite ropey, but being a sparky, I can sort out the electrics. I little tidy up, some welding, will make it a usable machine, that owes me nothing.

Thanks for the advice. Im sure I will have a million other questions for you guys later....

With a bit of work this should be quite a useful machine. Not a bad price either. Ten speed bmc gearbox & it is a 3c. Hoses can look a bit ropey but will be ok. Just don"t how long they would last if being used in anger.

Can't remember if there is enough room for the shaft to come out without pump removal or not! Am nearly sure when it's disconnected from the engine pulley,it should close in fully on the splines and that should give enough room to slide it back off the pump. I think.........

I don't remember having to move the pump on either a 11 or 111 to replace a uj/spider. It was easier with the rad out.

What sort of prices are you looking at for hoses. I know its going to cost more as the lenght increases, but whats the ball park price for a 1 mtr hose, for example ?

Does it need the fluid draining to replace them ? Excuse the simple questions, as Im a complete novice with hydraulics.

I think £40 would buy a metre long hose. No need to drain the fluid out. Keep as much of it in as you can. The digger is a steal at that price as it is in good nick. I would be a bit concerned with the geometry if it has a 3D boom and a 3C extending dipper. If it has a 3D dipper ram it wont tuck in right and would be even worse with a 3C dipper ram. From the photos I cant see enough to see if it is a 3D boom.

Sort out the lengths and the fitting on the ends (5/8'' from memory) and contact at least 2 hydraulic hose specialists for a price. They often start a ridiculous list prices and discount from there. You could also give the machine number to your local JCB stores and they might look up a part number. At one time our local agent, with part identified by a number, would make one up as cheap as the independents. It may be to old for them to be interested now. You will not need to drain any thing after the spool valves although you will lose some fluid. The main feed and return to the hydra chassis may need more ingenuity without draining.
