what is the best thing to wash the oil oil from the torque converter is there any special fluid i can get,
has anyone got a diagram of the gearbox and torque converter for the 3c3 powertrain carnt find anything on line

Sorry about the manuals, unfortunately there's a lot missing for the Powertrain models, for the others it seems to be complete. The best method is to fill up, run for a few minutes and replace a second time, but with current prices that's not a great option. Best to let it drain for a few days, you'll get more old stuff out like that, and maybe loosen a hose or two to empty the circuit for the torque convertor. Oil drains better when hot but that's not going to work here either. A good compromise could be to renew the oil now, run for a limited number of hours then renew it again, far from ideal but a bit more affordable.

Tip a small amount of T/C oil on a piece of white kitchen roll or similar. It might show how dirty it is.

I would renew the oils, you don't know what's in there. Torque convertor SAE 10W, Gearbox SAE 20W. Probably worth flushing through a bit to ensure no oil mixing occurs, don't run the engine to do that. Don't overfill the torque convertor.

For flushing, I just use the correct oil (maybe the cheapest version of it!)

Don't use ATF, JCB recommend Mobil Delvac 1310, wich is SAE 10W grade. It's usually for engines, but JCB used it in torque convertors and other odd places.

As Billy says,JCB recommend a SAE 10W grade oil but ATF Dexron 2 or 3 will be fine. I've an early 3cx, which has the exact same overall transmission as the Powertrain, for 31 years and have only ever used ATF in it with no problems.The Borg Warner workshop manual for the T72 velvet drive says to use ATF (or any SAE 10 hydraulic oil that meets Allison C3 or Cat TO-2 specs).
On a side note,the JCB manual states to use 15w 40 multi grade oil for the Spicer Turner gearbox but there is a plate on mine that says to use 80w90 gear oil. There's 15w40 engine oil in mine I think....could be 15w30 Suto...can't remember,but it's never been a bother either.
So do you go by the machine manufacturer or the component manufacturer as to what to use?

In the case of the Powertrain those are JCB parts so JCB guidance should apply. With the earlier Brockhouse machines they might have had different opinions.

Sorry to disagree Billy but the shuttle reverser is Borg Warner mated to a Spicer(Turner) gearbox in the Powertrain which continued into the white and early black cab 3CX before the JCB (ITL) Synchroshuttle was introduced.
