Steering problems

Post #1 by hubert » Wed May 07, 2025 12:18 pm

Working with a 3cx and the steering has gone all heavy and will not turn the wheels. The steering was working as normal up to last night Could it be A blocked filter or something to do with the orbital unit? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check the filter first. It's in the bottom left corner of the right hand hyd tank, behind the round plate. You'll see the main suction strainer for the rest of the hydraulics in there too. It's held on with one bolt IIRC,but the steering filter is screwed on.Both are washable. You'll need to drain the oil down first before removing the round plate. There should be a drain plug underneath. If washing the filter doesn't sort it,you could put a pressure gauge on the pump.It should have a quick release test probe on it. I don't know the correct pressure off hand but could likely find it in the workshop manual if needs be...
