Hi all,
Here are pics of Mr. MacGregor's old fuel filter, it was replaced because it had a crack (although I've never seen one). Does anyone know who made that element?
And here's what's left of the sedimenter.
Hopefully we'll find the missing bits soon and refit the sedimenter.

Re: Mr. MacGregor old filters
It looks like a "double length" CAV296.
I know they exist, but don't know their number.
Taking a punt here - my guess is your filter is the CAV796
If you get stuck, it looks like the CAV296 element will fit if you replace the centre bolt.

Re: Mr. MacGregor old filters
Sorry, I don't think I asked the right question. I wanted to see if anyone recognised the plain dark blue version. our new filter is a Delphi 796, successor to the CAV 7111-796, and all are similar to JCB's 32/400502. I find it odd for a filter of this period to lack any manufacturer markings, but that might just be that I don't know the manufacturer of this particular filter and that they did things in a different way.

I would guess any make meant for that set up will fit.
Used to be labelled as a CAV 796, the short one was a 296. The diameter of both is the same AFAIK. Sometimes the short filter is used with an alloy metal separater or a glass bowl.

Re: Mr. MacGregor old filters
Thanks Agrimax. I've just looked at Crosland units (the 620) and they do look right, I'm surprised that all the markings have gone, but maybe they don't like diesel and were quickly removed by bleeding. I'm now going to have a closer look at our one and see if I can find any trace of markings.
By the way, is this

a genuine 70's CAV or is it a modern version? I'm hoping to get a CAV and JCB element as replacements as and when possible, but I'm not sure about the CAV one as I'm used to our current Delphi unit.

Re: Mr. MacGregor old filters
For reference, CAV became Lucas CAV, then Lucas, then Delphi, and currently Borg-Warner.

Re: Mr. MacGregor old filters
I hadn't thought of a Lucas filter, but I just had a look and found an equivalent to the CAV 796 sold by Silver Fox. I haven't seen a Borg-Warner one though. So do you reckon the CAV element in the pic is similar to the one Mr MacGregor would have had when new? (unless JCB fitted they're own element in the factory, which I find would be more complicated but maybe that's just me being used to Ford's methods on Major's)
I found very faint traces of the markings on our old Crosland element, and they fit what I saw on new ones.

Can't help you on that one as all our gear regardless of make, all had 296 filters, either from new or retro fitted so we only kept one type in stock.
