Under normal circumstances 15, maybe 20 miles tops unless someone has some trailer space. This year however I'm very much on the fence as to what I'll do, if any. Best case scenario is bounce along the top - worst case is add weight and break something. Everything around here is like concrete.
As for the extra light, in my situation the visible difference between road speed and stationary is somewhat minimal so I thought a bit of extra 'wake up' notice probably wouldn't go amiss.

Re: New toy
It's that time of year again. So far only one match entered and I'm unsure about that even. I've got the 2f Ransomes TS54 out to try. There's been no viable practice ground available so it will be straight in on the day and hope. It'll be interesting to see how deep the pitch furrows have gone in, I'll have no problem spending the day in the catering tent if it's bad.
On the up side - or maybe a distraction - the Major has been around since 2019, and the Massey for over 3 years and yet despite them being regularly in and around the same yard today was the first time I got them together for a photo.

Re: New toy
Recently had to replace the starter relay but beyond that and an annoying slow puncture, she's all good.
It would be nice to try it but as the Major doesn't have top link sensing and the plough doesn't have a depth wheel it wouldn't work. Also, it's on cat1 pins so better suited to a Dexta with qualitrol.
A Ransome FR plough would be the ideal foil for the Major if I had the space. There is an auction soon with several vintage and classic ploughs so we'll wait and see.

Re: New toy
With a flat field I think a good eye can handle anything without depth control. Typical ploughs were the TS50/51 reversibles, TS59, TS63, TS64 and if you want a difficult one a TS73 (originally you would have got a pre-set linkage control with that one, including a telescopic top link). Before manufacture moved to Ipswich there was the EP, and the PM for the E27N. I'm sure I've missed some, I don't have a list of the full range.

Re: New toy
The TS54 got it's first outing.

Just beyond the pylon there are 28 tractors, some lorries and a loo block.
When marking out, you couldn't see from one end of the plot to the other. I eventually only used 2 markers (trying to place a headland marker was impossible) and topped the far pole with the tractor's mushroom precleaner and a hi viz jacket! Even then it was barely visible. I am pleased and rather amazed by the result. The fog had lifted quite a bit by then.

It's going to take a lot of fettling and head scratching but with a bit of time and available practice ground it looks promising.
