JCB 3C Mk1

Post #1 by CranesEtc » Wed Dec 16, 2009 12:31 am

The review of this Corgi model is now on Cranes Etc. I hope it is of use to anyone thinking of buying it. I'd be interested to hear opinions about it.

Gotta show a bit of favoritism for our own Mr Henleys models available at www.cjmplantmodels.com

I think the Corgi model is good ,but looking at the pics are the buckets too big ? I hope they put it out in 1.76 scale, it would sell like hot cakes to railway modellers who've had no 60's plant to put on layouts except the expensive white metal stuff.
Wonder why Corgi went for this year of JCB would have thought the MK11 was much more popular?

Craig, don't forget the 'OO' scale Airfix 3C on the Lomac wagon kit. I believe it's still available under another brand.

Your right Dave ,still made by Dapol and its a good little model of the JCB 3 specially since its 30+ year old and costs buttons. But its not RTP (ready to plonk :D )
For some reason the DAPOL catalogue photos show it without the mudguards, you think the manufacturer could build it correctly!

Brings me back to see the Airfix and Dapol JCB 3 with Lomac loader, when i was young, millions of years ago now, that was the only JCB model you could buy, apart from the Tri-ang JCB loader :backto:

I believe the Corgi version of the JCB 3Cmk1 was going to be a load on the back of a low loader that Corgi was going to produce, then Corgi got bought out by Hornby and the lorry was put on hold, they had already set the tooling for the 3C and brought it out as a stand alone model.

Martyn,

It comes on the W.H. Malcolm Volvo low-loader. I think the set came out just before the individual model.

Thats just it Dave the Volvo is years ahead of the years that the 3C was being manufactured, and it was not intended to go with a modern lorry, i cant remember the lorry it was to go with now, but it was a sixties lorry..
Corgi's were going to do a JCB 7 as well, but i think that has been put on hold. Corgi was up at J.C.Balls to measure their JCB7, it was only a couple of weeks before i went up there to measure it up, and that was nearly two years ago now.

That is a pity Martyn, some period trucks are badly needed, and a 6D would be nice. :D

I noticed on the Miniature Construction World review it was said "The front loader arms have an amazing range of lift movement which is a nice feature, however, the bucket tilt movement is very limited and this is a big dissapointment considering there is no reason for limiting the movement so much. One of the memories of the 3C is seeing the machine digging trenches with the bucket fully tipped and the arms lowered to raise the machine higher in the air and this cannot be replicated on the model" yet in the second picture in this thread it appears to be in just that position. Does anyone have the model yet and can confirm how a production version is?

Not surprising the bucket does not crowd fully back, as the loading arm rams are a bit too long ..

and yes dave, there does not seem to be many old lorrys on offer .. a 6C you say :dizzy: Mmmm
