Thwaites 7000 series 3 ton Dumper

Post #1 by mikelsmith » Wed Oct 10, 2012 7:18 pm

Looking for a repair to my gearbox. A local engineer has tried to locate parts but no one he has contacted seems to recognize my machine. The markings on the front axle are as follows...3801013TX3A014 and on the gearbox 203-4438. The gearbox has three forward gears and one reverse and is linked to a Lister/Petter 3 cylinder diesel engine. Would appreciate help in locating necessary parts.

Hi Gerard, once again many thanks....that was one site I had tried once before without much luck..the gearbox I have is, I believe a 95M and it seems that internal replacement parts are unobtainable. Looks like a complete replacement gearbox will be required!

Plant and Engineering in Beare, Exeter are good at old Gearbox and Axle spares. Might be worth a try.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your response...have tried them..they identified the gearbox I have but couldn't get parts to repair...I think a replacement gearbox is my only option...
Once again, thanks for trying to help

Depending on what gears/parts are needed you could try asking local engineering firms - there are a number about all over the country that make gears. some firms advertise in Old Glory for doing parts like gears for the traction engines (full size and minatures). (Got to be some business out there looking for some work to keep the machine tools going)

There is/was a firm at Chesterfield that does allsorts of gears and makes one offs/small batches. I had a catalogue from them some were but cannot remember were it is at the moment (filled in the loft) or what they are called. :dizzy: Also used to be a yard full of dumpers down there ex hire co mainly that used to be patched/painted up in batches for export i think, but they packed up a few years ago and the yard was cleared out :(

If its just worn teeth it could be built up & machined down if straight cut gears, but a 'new' used box may be cheaper and quicker if you can find one.
