Hi, i have a Benford LD-LE-LEC-LED Dumper which no longer steers and i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get my steering column and steering box refurbished , or replaced or where i can obtain spare parts.

Have you had a trawl on eBay? Another possibility, if the unit was.generic, might be the Thwaites specialist David Cornwallis . I think a ready built up will be expensive.

Thank you for your reply. I have looked on line to see what is available and found a couple of dumpers for spares although not sure if the steering parts are any good. It appears the Bishops Cam steering box was used on 1950/60s British classic cars such as MG which as you point out makes units very expensive !

The problem is generally water creeping down the column, similar to gearbox water ingress on the gear lever.

Although I have no answer to your problem I do have the parts manual that you can have. It may help looking at the breakdown of the column.

I restored a little Benford DC. It needed bearings in the steering box which are the same as a Series 2 Landrover box. I got the bearings and races. I had to get a nylon bush made for the top of the steering column. Luckily the worm gear was ok.
