2009 Little Casterton Working Weekend

Post #1 by John Gaunt » Tue Aug 11, 2009 11:11 am

The 2009 Little Casterton Working Weekend will be held the weekend of 19/20th September this year at Hall farm, Little Casterton.
For those who have never attended this event, I can highly recommend it. For me it is about the best event of the year. No stalls selling 'trinkets and trash', only the local WI (I think ?) selling super quality food and drinks. Proceeds are for the local church.
Machines here have to work. There are no rows of pristine machines that the owners are too scared to get dirty !
caterpillar are usually well represented, but many other makes and also many interesting old implements as well. The feature this year is Maize harvesting.

Hey, Noel, I look forward to seeing you and Neil there. I'm not sure yet which day I will go, which day will you and Neil be there ? I also really enjoy the (all too brief) flypast by the Battle of Britain memorial squadron

For those of you who have never been, this event is a real enthusiasts event, so no stalls, 'trinkets and trash' etc. just excellent quality food (barbecue, sandwiches, cakes) provided by the local community as well as LOTS of agricultural machines, all working. Arthur Hinch, the event organiser and host, is a founder member of the Caterpillar club in the UK, and he only allows machines there which are prepared to work ! This years feature is Maize harvesting.
Here is a link to information on the evnt which is on the Knight Farm Machinery website (Ron Knight is a great sponsor of the event, especially with combine harvesters, of which he is a keen restorer).

Oh, yes, there will be the odd bit of Cat equipment working there as well !

Many (including myself) regard this as one (if not the) best event of the year !

Hope to see you there (I will be there on the Saturday !

If anyone who is going Sat would like some CMN stickers, let me know and I will bring some along.

Heres a few photos from Sunday, as decided to visit here instead of the rescheduled Cromford event.

Good selection of Old Iron working with plenty of space. :D

A few other vehicles including cars, trucks, fire engines and steam for added interest were also present.

well worth a visit.
