Rare as hen's teeth; JCB 811 Powerslide?

Post #1 by Gavin Phillips » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:30 pm

Well ok I haven't exactly trawled the length and depth of the country looking for one, although I've seen pretty much every mid to late 1980's powerslide machine apart from the 811; most of the machines being the 814. For some reason that 14ton class excavator was the most common?

Has anyone ever seen any 811's either at work or rest? JCB promptly removed it and the 817 from the production line in around 1989/1990 when they brought out the 800 Super series of machines; running from the 812LC Super to the 820 Super, as well as introducing the 816. A later development was also the "Super Monoboom". As far as I am aware, this was only an option for the 818 & 820 Super. I was fortunate to see a solitary example of an 820 Super Monoboom.

Of course these machines vanished forever in 1992 when the first JCB/Sumitomo JS200 rolled off the production lines... I really had a soft spot for them!

But has anyone seen an 811?

Sad to say ive never seen an 811. Ive also a big soft spot for these machines, learnt in an 805B, (early type with straight six Perkins in it), took 1st test in an 814 super with JCB at Ashbourne, and we have/had an 818 at work. Say had, she's quite poorly at min and disappeared on a low loader today to see a doctor. Whether she'll return we dont know yet.

Never seen the monoboom type, didnt know they existed! Would love to see a pic if anyone has any?

This is the only picture I have of the 820 Super Monoboom that I saw, apologies for the hedge and the lousy picture. If I remember rightly, the site personnel were not keen on people with cameras for some reason so this was taken from over the top of a wire fence!

I had 9 months at Stewertby land fill site on a 9 yr old JS200 unloading rail ballast back in 2001.. it was perhaps the one of the best machines i have spent time on ..

Thankyou, that was quick!!!! I never knew JCB made a machine with monoboom until the JS series, I notice they retained the twin ram arrangement inside the boom.

The powerslide type with boom fully retracted allowed the bucket to collide with the windscreen! JCB operator training would not allow the windscreen to be opened for this reason, they'd got through a few! Early Cat (Eder) machines had same problem with larger buckets

Used to be the same on the Hymac 580C/Ds :dizzy: with a big digging bucket you could easily rip your front windscreen off  Priestman Mustang 108S was the same also !!

I popped my windscreen on the Hymac 580D I drove for nine years on a couple of occasions

You only had to forget for a split second and ....SMASH!!

Knew I had a picture of the odd 811 somewhere. I sold this about 3-4 years ago to a couple of farmers. No difference to the 812 whatsoever appart from the 2 cylinder Lister/petter engine fitted - noisy beast :dizzy:

Chris a 2cyl Petter/lister! That must have been a bit under powered. Was it built as a poverty pack?
