Post #1 by bob » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:42 pm

few pictures of concrete crushing on old airfield in 1965 Cransford Contracting was own by Michael Beacher and the yard is still own by Neil.
It ceased trading thirty odd years ago when I was there it had a few d8s d7s hymacs and I think diggers
called olamats? Swedish? a few years later it had ts 14s and ts 24s with d9g .When I was with Blackwells at millbrook testing centre there 24s and ambrose 24s where on hire.

Great period pictures Bob.Was there a firm called Cransford Baldwin or something like that who did some earthmoving for the Mere(wiltshire) bypass on the A303 many years back and had an Aveling Barford dozer 20 to 22 ton machine or is my memory playing tricks on me? Tim

Yes Peter Baldwin was running it when it went bust he had worked for Blackwell and wyatts as an agent before then .Think somebody had put some money in and he was there man. But before that it was called Cransford Contracting Co

Super pictures Bob, and a great range of plant shown there!

The excavators you mention would be Oleomats, which were later sold as the Ford range I believe.

A question: the machine with the 'Lemand' sign on the bonnet, is that an Arrow concrete breaker?

Dave.

Nice period pics, Bob, thanks for sharing them. I like the Ford Thames Trader truck (would have been called a lorry in those days !).
I also like the Drott. I've done quite a few hours on one of those. I was always amazed at the power of the hydraulics on that machine.
