3c and me

Post #1 by Ric » Fri Apr 30, 2010 11:12 am

Hi I thought I'd introduce myself as have been looking in on this site for awhile. My names Ric and am dairy farmer from Derbyshire.Allways been interested in anything with engine, about 7 years ago brother-in-law and me bought an old 3c for for digging a few ponds on some rough ground he's got and to do some drainage work on our place. We used old girl for about 3 years then lost foreward drive and she stood for another 3 years in shed. Then last September I stripped shuttle box and put new foreward clutch plates in plus new oil pump and now works brilliantly. The serial number is3c111 136523/5 and I think I'm right in saying it's an early powertrain transmission, the engine is painted blue so think this is a leyland tractor transplant, dry disc brakes only left side working at mo. I'm hoping to fix afew problems the old girls got later in year, front crank oilseal, play in backactor slew and lights. It's so useful round farm and works most days and is brilliant starter.any way thats me and old girl
Ric.

Hi and well done for getting it going. I have always bottled doing the internals of those tranmissions. You have an early PowerTrain build 5 which is the 5 after the /. We had a 1980 model for years although it had wet brakes which were part of JCB's own axle (IIRR). They were always effective but squawked sometimes. I am wondering if your dry brakes are the same as the last Leyland Tractors? They should not be too difficult to fix but will always be poor compared to wet type.

Hi Guys
Thanks for welcome, really nice. I will put some pics of old girl on in a couple of weeks when my son returns with camera. Ye she does have dry disc brakes same as leyland tractors. We have a1972 leyland 253 which my late dad bought new and even then there was allways an element of 'interest' when you pressed pedal. Now it on scaper so to stop just lower scraper to floor!
I've downloaded manual from top right of forum and it is brilliant, Thanks so much for that.I'm looking at all pics when i get time on here, plenty to go at and really interesting. Thanks to everyone.
