I was actually looking around for more information on the NSM-owned RH300 that was working with Wabco 170ton trucks up in Scotland when I turned up this thread, plus a DVD featuring the RH170 machine, the Banks-owned RH200 shovel and a few other bits and pieces.

After the O&K/Terex merger, the RH170 became known as TME170 in 2006.
It would seem there is a backhoe version offered for the RH170, as it appears not that many 170's are kicking around, does anyone know if any were ever made?
RH200 backhoe's for comparison don't seem to be that common either. Going from memory, I can only recall one, being an all-electric machine with a 30 yard bucket.
How many O&K RH170's in UK ?

Paul's lower photo is taken at Llanilid West. You can see the infamous Llanharan hanging wall in the back ground which the Llanharan colliery went through.
As for 170 backhoes, Goonyella riverside have one on coaling. CMC I think it is also has one. Leighton coal also had one at Macarthur Moorvale. White Flame energy in the US has one along with an RH200 backhoe.
With regard to RH200 there is a simple reason for this. RH200 backhoe swings at 537tonnes a 28m3 bucket. For only 10tonnes more you can have the RH340 swinging a 34m3 bucket. This is why there are so many 340 backhoes in Oz in particular but not that many RH200.
Having said that, Henry Walker have 2 RH200 backhoes in Indonesia! There are at least 2 electric RH200 backhoes in South Africa.

Aye the 340 is pretty simmilar machine .. The front end is a lot lighter so this = bigger bucket.
Teck Bought two 340's .. One Diesel, One electric, The electric machine wasnt built while I was there .. and the Mine went into shut down shortly after.

I remember driving to Llanharan which was a 2 hour round trip from where I was living near Glynneath, specifically to watch the RJB 170 working when it first arrived at the Llanilid site.
I have some photo's of it loading trucks somewhere, not the best quality though as they were from a polaroid camera. I'm moving house soon so it's an ideal time to go looking for them. Stay tuned!
