Leyland T 45

Post #1 by Mrsmackpaul » Sun Aug 17, 2014 12:39 am

In another topic I said that Leyland T45 never came to Australia well it looks like I was wrong check this out .Interestingly I had a bit of a search on google and some of the problems people had were the spicer transmission and the Leyland back end yet if they were to be released into Australia they were two things they were going to change ,Then I thought I would have a look and see what there worth still, couldnt really find any for sale either they were real bad or they just didnt sell many or maybe those that have them love them so much they wont let them go and the same with the Marathon's those TL12 motors must not have been to bad as all the Marathons in Australia I have seen still have them a bit low on go maybe?

We used to call them Whining Winnies becasuse the transmission noise on motorways was incredible.
I always assumed there was some sort of resonant mismatch that caused the howling niose - perhaps there were other issues.
If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.

Paul you'd be very hard pressed to find a T45 around these days and yes the Scammell badged versions were basically the same truck they all fell within what was the old BL (British Leyland) badge era; sadly many great names lost now such as; AEC, Albion, Guy, Scammell and Leyland all gone now. :( along with the rest of true British truck making.

Nice finds there Pete  but they are very rare these days with the possible exception of the army version; sadly I noticed today as I took a trip out the last of the old ERF's appear to be bowing out now I only saw four and the odd Foden. :(
