The early days of Dick Hampton
Hi,I am a new member. My Father, Sam Hopwood worked for Dick Hampton from the time that Dick opened his yard in Hampshire, until my Father's death in 1973. My Dad loved his time working for Dick Hampton and travelling the country in his lorry delivering machinery to all parts of the UK and latterly to Germany. Does anyone still remember my Dad? I have lots of photos of the very early days of the company and going forward. Would anyone be interested if I posted them to this site, and if so perhaps someone could let me know where to put them and how to do it. There are lots of old names that I remember - Stan Jeffrey, "Ginger" Ainsley, Bert Parish, Barbara Toogood (Dick's secretary) ......and may more.

Sorry - I am really new to all of this! Craig has advised me how to add photos but I can't see how to do this at the moment. I have tried to follow instructions but can't see what he has said on the page. Perhaps someone can help me please

You can install a programme called Shrinkpix which will detect that you are attaching an image to an email or forum posting and do the image reduction automatically while leaving the original untouched.

Re: The early days of Dick Hampton
These photos are of the opening party at Blacknest, late 1950s. Dick and Mrs Hampton opened the new Company headquarters and held a staff party to christen the new Caterpillar tractor which I believe was the 2nd one that they had. In the early days Mrs Hampton drove the tractor in daylight hours. My Dad was the 2nd employee to be enlisted from the local area. The company grew rapidly and work was carried out all over Britain - the 1960s being the heyday of the motorways. I particularly remember the Preston Bypass being built and Dad was away for 6 months only coming home for one weekend during that time.

Does anyone remember Tommy Lamb? he had a son Michael (Mickey) and a younger son Danny. I believe Mrs Lamb's name was Madge. They were a lovely family, Irish I believe and travelled around from site to site. I remember visiting them in the caravan at Rochester Kent in the early 1960s.
