JCB801 Engine Access panel removal

Post #1 by Bivvysenior » Sun Jan 19, 2014 8:33 pm

Hello
I am newbie to the forum and also new to the world of plant machinery. My son bought a JCB 801 (built 1991) from a nice farmer in Devon who kept the machine and the cows in the same field. As my son and I don't know much about mini diggers we had it demonstrated to us and we paid the money and towed it home. We need the digger for maintenance of fencing and ditch clearing so it is not going to be used a lot.
Since buying the JCB in December we have had to replace the bucket and dipper arm bushes and pins so it is now nice and tight with no slack. We serviced the engine and fitted new glow plugs. However the fanbelt tension needs adjusting... I have managed to get a workshop manual download from the states for $12 and not the £400 the JCB dealer wanted whilst it does not cover the serial number of my machine it appears very similar.. It says "open engine cover" then remove the engine access panel. Here lies my problem where is the engine access panel? I have looked and looked to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find this panel and how to remove it!!!

Sorry about the ramble
Any help or advice would be appreciated

Rom

As it happens I had the seat out to replace with a new one. There appears 3 large bolts that form part of the lower bracket were the rear seat rubber mounts rest, and it also retains the fuel tank with a further bolt in the battery compartment.

Should these be removed? Or am I in the wrong area

The reason I replied to your ? was I asked the same for my year 2000 1.5 JCB and got the reply a small panel behind the seat makes the job a bit easier, in saying that I still haven't looked, of coarse it might be different to yours.
Cheers John

Hi John

Worked it out!
Remove three bolts that appear to hold the fuel tank it then slides to the side on some pivots. This exposes the engine access plate. With a few bolts undone it removes the access panel. Simple matter to retention the belt

Thanks for the clue

[Sorry cannot help with a photo , but if you remove the seat and battery the bolts will be seen to be removed.
Come back if you still have a problem
