Artic Dumpers on site in the West Country

Post #1 by Nick Drew » Fri Jul 13, 2007 1:58 pm

Here are a selection of ADTs at work on sites that I have been working on recently.

I dont know what other readers think but I fell the Volvo trucks take some beating, I guess its the fact that they were really the pioneers of these kind of trucks, will be interesting to hear what other members think?? :?:

Some information:
The A25C is the last one that is legal to drive (as it is) legally on public roads in Sweden. The 25D and on are to wide. The bigger ones are also to wide and that goes for all generations.

I drove an A25D last winter in a show at Volvo.
The Volvo guy: "Robert, you´ll be driving the A25"
Me: "That´s all right but I have never driven an articulated dump truck before"
Peter (another of the drivers): "Don´t worry, many of the ADT-drivers on construction sites drive like they haven´t done it either".
Anyway, it was easy to drive, comfortable and it gave a lot of "I want one"-feelings.
The only thing was that it uses loooooots of space when it starts to slide wide on the snow.

I dont know if you read about it somewhere already but Volvo got a contract somewhere in Russia, Siberia and the company ordering wanted guaranties for the hard winters. The competitive brands followed down somewhere around -20-25 degrees Celsius, Volvo where the only one that gave guaranties that the equipment would work down to near -40-45 degrees Celsius. In fact the Dumpers have worked over expacted.

And that´s -4/-13 and -40/-49 degrees of Fahrenheit for you in the English speaking society.

Here are some shots of a little JCB 714 that I am currently loading on a little site that I am working on in Bodmin Cornwall.

It is a 2002 model and is owned by Plymouth based plant hire company W. Daniels Ltd

I am hoping that the operator Jim is going to be joining us here in the not too distant future as he tells me he has a lot of interesting pictures and stories to share  ;)
