I took this photo earlier this year up at the West Chevington OCCS, the trucks run from one side of the site to another and have to pass under a public road, its a great chance to see these trucks at work and they dont half motor under the road!
The 789 is overtaking the fully loaded 777 prior to the underpass.
Apologies for the poor picture quality!

Yes the Chevington site is still going, though i thought it was called West Chevington. If you park up near the underpass you can get some excellent photos of 777's and 789's thundering past not sure how old those 789's are now but they lok like they have shifted some dirt, i am waiting for work to send me up that neck of the woods and i will stop off and get some photos which i will post on this web site.

Re: 789 & 777
Hello Mike,
Is this a different site to the one that is known as Maidens Hall.
Do you know what loads the 789s?
I can't wait to see your next photos.
Regards from Canada,
Mark

Re: 789 & 777
Am not sure if West Chevington and Maidens Hall are one and the same or if they are two opencast mines which are linked together! Am sure someone on the forum could clarify the situation!
The Cat 789's are being loaded by a O&K RH170, which is the only machine of its type to be working in the UK and a RH200. I will have a look for some photos i've taken of the 789's and will post them here.
I briefly saw Beechers D9L there last summer but was too far away for photos and believe there is a D10R working there, does anyone know if these machines are still working there?
Regards

Re: 789 & 777
im currently on site providing dealer back up, the former site was maidens hall where the workshops are still located, the extension is called steadsburn which is on the south side of the underpass, the overburden which is being removed from steadsburn is currently being hauled over to maidens hall to fill the former workings, the 789s and are being loaded at the maidens hall side by the RH200 and the 777's and tr100's and 785's are being loaded by no fewer than 5 rh120's backhoe and face shovel versions and the rh 170 is taking care of the 785s, its a 20 minute round trip to the tip area from steadsburn 5 16h motor graders take care of the long haul roads with support from 2 D9s one D9R and a D9L from becher, i have hundreds of photos and i will post when i get 5 minutes, bechers 641's are parked up along with a D9H ready for better weather, uk coal have planning to start a 6 year job at ashington word is they are hoping to be in in the next few weeks to start site preperation, they have also been awarded a job at tow law county durham, hopefully the 789s which are now over 25 years old and in excess of 58000 hours a piece will gain a new lease of life on these jobs, its just awesome to watch them work with the RH200 (which was the first to arrive in the uk) just how much material they can move in an 8 hour shift.

Hi Scott
Sounds interesting Job
Was that the RH200 that was at Orgreave in South Yorks then when that finished, (think the OCCS was actualy called something else like Waverly ? ). there were a few RH120s as well. you could see the machines from miles away when working on the spoil heap and reinstatement works.
