HI Steve,
Great pics as ever. Thank you.
The second pic. in your last post brings back memories for me.
The pic was taken at Nantgarw Coke Ovens, South Wales circa 1964/5.
The Contractor was Yorkshire based Wm. Pepper Ltd. who were part of the Hargreaves Group. I know because I was their foreman fitter covering their three sites in South Wales. At that time, at the Nantgarw site, we were screening coke onto rail for export to Portugal via Cardiff Docks.
I was doubling as foreman fitter and site foreman then, working six 12 hour day shifts then six 12 hour nights every other week. I worked through 36 hours without going home more than once.
Though a fitters, (tradesman's),rate then was 6 shillings and 3 old pence per hour and you were lucky to take home £22 my take home wages were usually a little more than £56. I never minded the hours come payday.
We had eleven 22RBs on site feeding five screening plants. The screens were by Parker and Niagra and all but one were electricaly powered by by generators with Dorman, AEC and two with Sentinel engines.
We also had a Case 1000 and two Case 800 loaders a Cat 955 and a Weatherill LC61 wheel loader on site together with at least a dozen 4, 6, and 8 wheel site tippers. The Albion CH13 in the pic was one of four Albions Ex Hargreaves own fleet.

Fred it is a small world, thanks for sharing the info on Dennis Hitchins, i always remember it was way back in 1984 when i was looking for a digger, No internet then so i used to trawl Farmers weekly as there was always lots of ads i Travelled down to Ross on Wye in my mates Triumph TR6, The yard was full of JCB 3C mk2s a 3B an old 3 where you got in and out by climbing up the kingpost and in through the back, Ironically he had a lovely little MF40 which had come from Biddenden near me, There were so many 1970's 3c's available on the secondhand market the. On reflection i shold have purchased that MF40. i also took a friend down to Ross to find a machine but Dennis was light on stock on that day so we popped over to Ken Barbers and purchased a 1979 MF50B my mate still has it and still uses it ! Happy days indeed.

Hi Steve I have written several articles for CP&M in regards to the restoration work carried out on the Hymac; Peter Love has at least two if not three waiting for publication, I can only write the articles but he is the one who decides what goes in the magazine so if you want to see more then write in or email him to ask when/if they are going to be published?
I have not bothered doing other write ups on my list as I am sick of writing them for nothing when they are not put in the mag; I am hoping to get started with some major work on the Hymac in the next few months but need to get the Poclain up and running first, luckily I am not far off that stage now.
I want to take the dipper off the Hymac as I think the boss has cracked on the one side; also the bucket ram requires a rebuild and the dipper ram, well I have a recon for the dipper waiting to be fitted along with some new steel pipes to replace the bent one on the nearside of the machine so much to tackle there plus loads more, time is the issue but not enthusiasm.

This now classic ERF EC11 was spotted by me on the same industrial estate on which my work is so I quickly grabbed my small point and shoot camera and snapped it.

Great pictures Jeremy, i have a real soft spot for ERF with their glassfibe cabs i have been in a few over the years, in the late 80 i used to manage a large warhouse and we were getting 60 pallets of ceramics in every week, The haulier was W. J Wass from Stoke, They were a great bunch of drivers and i often wonder what they are up to nowadays we used to have so much banter. Bill Wass purchased several brand new ithink E10 all in white with red/ orange coloured chassis most with 290 engines so not the most powerfull but he did have a couple with the larger 325 engines including a twin steer which the drivers said were brilliant when they got to a hill compared to the 290 tractor units. The 325 was a big engine in 1989 and 400 was sheer superpower how times have changed. Thanks for the pics of Sandbachs finest.
