The 3-to-3.5 cubic yard 1201 was made from 1939 thru 1959. I have read that some were license-built by Glasgow's North British Locomotive Co. for Jack Olding & Co., Ltd., in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. These had Crossley EST4/875 4-cylinder two-cycle diesel engines (see April 2010 issue of Classic Plant & Machinery).
Otherwise, the 1201 was normally fitted with a HUGE Cummins model L (a locomotive engine to begin with) diesel. Later 1201's were fitted with the newer, higher speed Cummins V-12 diesels. Big BUDA straight-8 diesels, I have read long ago, have been used also.

Re: LIMA 1201
Hi Kevin,
Very interesting material, thank you.
I posted on here somewhere thread title was "Lima in Britain," ( link at bottom of page). I mentioned the Crossley power unit there.
Since then I've learnt that North British Locomotive who built them here were part of the same group as Crossley Motors, hence the Crossley engines I suppose.

Re: LIMA 1201
Thank you Fowler Man. I found, and checked out, that thread. Very interesting pics of the machine's at work, and the Crossley engines
As a follow-up, here are some scans from my LIMA 802 brochure, which I believe is from 1952. The rotating deck shots show the V-8 CAT D17000 power-unit.
