I would like to see how one of these compare against a modern wacker plate.
When I was young,I used to watch the gas main renewal being carried out by a small gang of paddys. All they had was a compressor, roller and a jumping jack rammer. The work they got through looking back was phenominal. They spent the night in the Park hotel.Graham and Fred will know where it is.. Saw one of these rammers kick back at its operator, give him a mighty whack that would have floored most guys. But those boys were tough and hard working.

Took these two pics at Russell Seywell's open day today. The engine says Cummins but I'm not sure about the machine - old Euclid/Terex?

Hi Angus,
You just beat me to it, I photographed this one myself today.
The tractor is a Fowler Challenger 3 with Bray equipment, it was manufactured at Leeds between 1950 and 1955.
I dont know where it says Cummins, :? but the engine is a Leyland 600 (some of them were fitted with Meadows 6DC630 engines), and I think its a Vickers Onions winch. :?:

Hi Fred,
May be a case of "Should have gone to Specsavers" but I had a look at the engine and there was a worn id plate on which I thought I could see ....ins but I have to say that it did not look like a Cummins lump!
