Equipment conveyed on ice

Post #1 by Lars-Gunnar » Thu Jun 21, 2007 11:03 pm

In the north of Canada they have a mine on an island far from land. They conveyed all types of material/equipment on a way as goes on ice during the winter. They runs their trucks when it is 60 degrees below zero and sometimes they broke down. They use both scrapers and dozers and they broke trough the ice and some of them was towed. Many pictures is from the past. But even from late year.

It is mainly about trucks but they carry a huge Cat D11, fuel, a large dump basket and other equipment on ice.

Check out this famous link: http://www.thedieselgypsy.com/Ice%20Roa ... enison.htm 2 pages.
Another is this: http://www.thedieselgypsy.com/Qs%20-%20ICE%20STORY.htm

Scroll down and read and you perhaps may find the links I added and more.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the links Lars-Gunnar! :) I have seen on TV about a dimond mine in Canada. They have to transport as much spare parts, fuel, food and so on to the mine during the winter because the trucks had to drive on several large frozen lakes. During the summer it was impossible to get to the mine on land... And in this mine they used large equipmet such as big Demag shovels and CAT trucks.
