Suppose their is an argument that if you are sat bare headed in an open machine demolishing a five storey building you are going to be very careful !
Bit like Jeremy Clarkson's take o safety , the best car safety feature would be a big steel spike in the middle of the steering wheel !
Picture wise they were the best of the bunch but I will dig out some more .

Hi Jeremy,
Could just as easily have been a young Fred.
That's a great pic. brings back memories as I have worked on everything in that pic. The Smith crane with its Gardner 6LW up top and a second 6 LW or LX ? in the Foden carrier. I remember putting a pair of new pinion gears and bearings in the slew gearbox in one of them. They were the only crane/navy I knew to be driven through a two speed gearbox.
The Bedford 4x4 is an "S" Type, ( it's not an RL). Bedford 330 diesel or 300 petrol in them if I remember rightly, though we had one Bedford 4x4 fuel bowser on one job with a Leyland 375 in it.
The Cat. "I thought." Adjusting the clutch. Then I saw the clutch housing cover on the track so looks like a bigger problem. Always tried to get onto those jobs early in the mornings before the site started work whilst they were cool enough to touch. They got tooo!!! damned hot to touch in no time and took ages to cool down. Could give a nasty burn.

Yes Fred indeed it could also have been a young Fred; would have loved to share some time with you on those machines but alas I was but a nipper.
