Great shots, Ross. Must be very challenging working on kit outdoors in those temps, do you get many problems with Frostbite ?

John: Never had a problem myself but Ive seen a few guy's with frost bitten ear's etc.

Winter Overall's, Glove's and a decent hat does the trick.

-10 isnt to bad .. It's when it drop's to -30 .. -35 thing's start to get complicated.

Simple 10 min job's turn into an Hour's worth of Struggle.

On the topic of RH400 locations outside of the U.S., theres actually two RH400's at CITIC Pacific Mining's Sino Iron project, Cape Preston, WA, Australia - EX003 and EX004. Theres also an RH400E (Electric drive version) at the largest platinum mine in the world, Anglo Platinum's Mogalakwena section, in Limpopo, South Africa. There are only eleven RH400's in operation around the world (10 diesel, 1 electric)

Wasnt the fifth RH400 built an electric powered machine? i think it went to kennecott energys jacobs ranch mine, correct me if i am wrong but the deliverys went like so, first 4 to syncrude, the 5th to kennecott, number 6 to north american construction, 7 and 8 to canadian national resources?, 9 and 10 to australia and the last one to south africa? :dizzy:

#2 Syncrude 11-36 - In limbo, still active, but not operating. Hopefully they make a decision soon to fix her.

#5 Kennecot Energy - Electric machine, parted out
#6 NACG, now Syncrude 11-40 - Active
#7 CNRL - Active
#8 CNRL - Active
#9 Citic Pacific - Active
#10 Citic Pacific - Active
#11 Anglo Platinum - Active - Electric machine

So currently, there are 8 active diesel versions and one electric version still active, with reports of 3 more for a mine expansion in Australia.

Hi Brian,

Interesting to see the original machines are pretty much still in active service. What sort of hours have 11-36. 11-37, 11-38 got on them now? Also how much work have they needed to maintain their service ( have they performed as well as anticipated)

I'm not sure of the hours on the different shovels off the top of my head, I'll try to remember to look when I go back to work in a few days.

They have preformed quite well, but have also proved that they are a very maintenance intensive machine. If you maintain them properly, they run great. but if you let the maintenance slip, they give you all sorts of problems. Definitely more so that most other machines, where you can get away with a more relaxed maintenance program, and still get good availability out of them.

11-36 has a badly cracked frame, which they say is not economical to repair, and needs to be replaced. We are still waiting on management to make a decision as to whether or not to repair her. From what we are told, cost to buy a new machine will only be a few million more than repairing her as she stands.
