Taylor Yardster Fork LIft Y-16W - transmission slipping

Just wanted to touch base as a preliminary effort. I have a 1959 Yardster Y-16W fork lift with an Allison CRT 3331-1 transmission. It seems to be slipping quite badly. You can get it to move a little, but it slips enough that it doesnt have the power to even pull itself up on a trailer.
I have been searching for manuals for it for weeks, so that I can understand how it operates to help narrow in on diagnosing it, but have not found any manuals yet. Planning a full fluid/filter service once I can find the necessary filters and figure out what kind of oil I should use to replace it. (Have seen two different oils supposed to be for it C-4 15w40 or C-2 oil... which appears is either 15w40 motor oil with a C-4 rating, or I guess from what I can tell, C-2 is a dextron/mercon ATF fluid. SO not really sure what to put in there, and dont want to drain til I know what to replace it with.
Anyway, if someone knows those types of transmissions, I have open ears for suggestions on things to check or any ideas on things to try to help diagnose it.
Thanks
Wade
