Using Fiber optic for lights.

Post #1 by niner » Thu Aug 29, 2013 10:02 pm

I have a Joal Komatsu WA900 that I'm doing up in slow time. I've been wanting to put some lights in the front headlights but theres not enough room for an LED bulb.

I managed to get some fiber optic strands in a bid to experiment so tonight I knocked up a crude mock up to see how it would work.

The photos are a bit grainy.

This is a rough headlight bar and unit made with some plastruct, aluminium tube and a bit of blue tack to hold it together.

Roughly put up against the model.

I hooked the optics to a small LED torch on my mobile. There isnt a lot of light coming out of the end but it works. That light could be packed with a lot more optic. I reckon with a bit of work It will work.

Anyone else tried this?
