Blimey, a blast from the past .. must be at least early sixties, Dinkys did another coles crane based on a TK bedford, that was not a bad model ..

Update..sorry it was a Jones mobile crane not coles

It's a bit smaller than 1/50th scale. It was a 20 ton capacity machine. I'll measure the one in the loft tomorrow. ;)

The Bedford TK mounted crane was a Jones Fleetmaster (with folding jib), and it was indeed not a bad model.

Dinky made two other Coles cranes though - the four-wheeled yard crane type with a cantilever jib, and the later telescopic "Hydra Truck 150" 15 ton six wheeler.

Geraint,

Here's a pic of my £6 crane sitting beside my steel rule so you get an idea of size.

Pricipal dimensions in millimeters are:

Overall length, including boom: 245
Truck length: 165
Boom length: 155
Width: 50
Height to top of crane cab: 80

One really neat thing about these Dinky cranes is that the body hinges up to allow you to replace the strings!

Hope that helps. Anything else you need just ask.

I've got all four of these cranes (slightly battered).
The Jones / Bedford is indeed a nice model ,wonder if it was based on real machine or did Dinky just use their existing bedford cab ,can anyone come up with a photo of the real thing ?

There is the full sized version in use at Rowcorde engineering Newport. Its painted all yellow and seems to have replaced a NCK crawler crane.Next time on days I will try to get a photo of it along with the 38 RB's and the S & P Dock cranes.
