We don't see that axle layout much over here. The only one I have seen recently was on a normal control Scania.

But here its common :) the rules make this configuration better an ordinary 8x4
in sweden 32tons total weight

total weight on a ordinary 6x4 are 26 ton

Merc, Dennis Eagle and I think Scania offer mid steer chassis in either 6x2 or 8x 4 variants. Couple of Merc 8x4's doing refuse collection round here, Northampton Borough Council have a fleet of Merc/Dennis 6x2 mid steer, and I believe South Northants Council have a Scania 8x4 midsteer. Seems to be a niche market though for the mid steer versions, I imagine cuts tyre wear on 6 wheelers and maybe offers tighter turning radii, refuse collection does involve some tight spots!
