the loading shovel in the picture is definatley a cat 944a circa 1967/1970.

just another thought when i drove one of these 944s, on a cold morning it was common for the con rod in the compressor to smash a hole in the side of the compressor block casting, very good brakes on this model for its time.

If it's a 944 it may have been built in Glasgow. 944s were in production when I worked there in the early 60s!

there was a 944 at finnings llantrisant depot that was i am pretty sure owned by a company named evans&williams from letterston near fishguard.it had been refurbished i think just for showing purposes,only rear wheels in those days steered the machine.

Yes Graham,I took some photos of that machine.Will try to find them.We put a small write up in the ACMOC Chapter 2 magazine.
That was a few years back.Are you Graham Hilman ? if so there is a photo on this site of you driving Dai Walters lowloader by Pontypridd . :thumbup:

long time no contact,can you tell me where on the site the photo if it is the one i am thinking of i was loaded with a cat 385lme which i had brought down from our job at weymouth.i met barry at a funeral in december and he took me down to see his collection what a splendid setup he has got i have to say.i did nt know that you were a loco mechanic,before i moved back to abercynon, i lived where the line passed our back garden and i can remember 3xclass 37s to bring the mgr hoppers downsometimes 2xclass47s were used as well,i will come to see your cpllection one day i had just missed you at the carmarthem show you went home because you were working nights keep in touch.
