Hello Nick
Fuelled one loco last year and put 6500ltrs in it,very strange as the tank capacity is 6400. On full load they burn 1 gall per mile, but when they are pulling 2000 ton slab trains its very cost effective,it would take dozens of artics to move the same load. One train has 30 wagons carring 76 tonnes of petrol per wagon. The longest we run in the area has 40 bitumen tanks and 11 Ford parts vans on it.Three quarter of a mile long. Its limited by the length of passing loops,as they would run longer trains. The top speed for the wagons are 60 mph.

it's nice to see that the coal industry is picking up a fair bit.I believe Budge opened a couple of deep shaft pits last year and plan to open some more. It's got to be good for the local economy down there for you Martyn.
Long may it last.

Had an interesting callout last Thursday night,a 2000 ton Larfarge self discharging stone train parted as it went through Newport station. The front half ended up 15 yards from the back half. The drunks on the station thought it was highly amusing. Re coupled it and got it on its way to Mountsorrel.
