After many years of searching I have finally managed to obtain a Ransomes Industrial Wheeled tractor that is fitted with an inboard Boughton winch. This machine was used by British Rail at Brighton Station for shunting trucks, the winch was used to start them moving and then towed with the four wheel drive. Does anyone have any information about the rail use of these machines as I gather they were used in numerous shunting yards.

Sorry, didn't know anything about the 80th anniversary until now otherwise I would have tried to get there.
Nice find. So how does the four wheel drive work on the shunter? I'm assuming the colour is 'BR blue without yellow ends'!

There is still time to enter if you crack on and e mail a form.
The ITW is driven by chains from the front wheels to the rear, steering is via brakes on the diff which drives the front wheels, have just refitted it's original drayton diesel engine and hope to have it in as found but running condition at Malvern hope to see you there.

Finally managed to get it up and running with its original Drayton Diesel engine. The electric start is a real bonus. Went for a ride up the road throttle is a bit stiff but put that down to new governor.

This tractor was e British Rail Brighton Station yard they were used for shunting standard rail trucks using the winch to get things moving and then tow, some were fitted with a pusher blade frame front and rear.
