Old Haul Truck

Post #1 by dpan » Mon Mar 11, 2013 12:42 am

Pictures came in an email with no identity of who took them. Some of the Canadian miners may have seen this in person. Maybe some of the older guys had even worked on it or others in the area at that time. Western Australia, Western Canada, and Arizona USA where these were in use.

Maybe should have done a search of this old truck before posting, when did search a bit ago find many threads about old 3200. This model produced by Wabco for only a few years. Only model ever to use EMD propulsion system.

I thought the Terex Titan used a similar drive system or am I mistaken? The Titan certainly used a locomotive power unit, okay so the Titan was only a one off.

Should have been more specific, the 3200 only Wabco model to use EMD drive system. Yes Titan used EMD. If remember correctly a GE system for that capacity truck was not yet available at time 3200 designed. Also 3200 only three axle truck Wabco ever produced. The envelope was being pushed by a few manufactures back then, Wabco's first electric drive truck had just gone into production in 1965-66 at 105 tons. With Dorman engines. In a short time truck was up to 120 tons, and by 70-71 here came a 230 ton truck. Also during that time Solar jet engines prototyped in 120's as the search was on for reliable power. Detroit finally late 60's had 149 in production.
