UK Coal Orgreave - A Few Photos

Post #1 by RMFurniss » Thu Feb 17, 2011 12:50 am

Living around 1 mile away from the now remediated Orgreave site allowed me to get down on a regular basis to see the mighty RH200's in action, the closest being a few feet away. A far cry from the sorry looking machine that you can see here being stripped. A few 120C's too for good measure.

Living that close, you must have been able to hear the sound of those RH200s. Best sounding machine ever!

Thanks for the pictures.

Brilliant set of pictures there Richard - thanks for posting :claphands: :claphands:  - do you have any more? If you look at my thread on opencast coal picture's there are some at Arkwright site with what I believe is the same RH200.

All the best - Ian

Brian,

You're right, the sound of the 200 is like music. It's just a shame that we'll never really see machines of this sort of scale in the UK now, except perhaps in a few isolated locations.

Hi Ian,

I've actually got quite a few photos, I'll see about getting some more uploaded. As the mine was almost remediated, I managed to get 'unrestricted' (ahem) access one evening via the site security guard and managed to shoot literally hundreds of photos of a 120 face shovel and backhoe that were parked. Have you been down to the UK Coal site between Heanor and Smalley?. I believe some of the Orgreave machines ended up down there?. I actually work just outside Ilkeston, but never seem to get the time to go down for a look!.

Richard

Thanks for posting those pictures Richard I really am very envious as I have never been able to get up and close to a large piece of kit like that

Here's the same RH200 in all it's glory - taken in 1998 at Arkwright OCCS - this machine was I believe the first RH200 in this country when it started work at Tinsley Park OCCS in 1989 - how many hours has it done in this time  :?:

Ive been down to the Lodge House site twice! I think that RH120C in you pics is down there aswell as anothe C and an RH120E.....Most of the trucks that were originally on Ladge house at the start have been replaced by 777F's now.....i think there is still a few D's down there and the last time i was down there they had a 777B that was being repaired.....

Theres a fair few pics on here of the machines on site. On the workplaces excavators and dozers sections Ive posted a few pics on all of them and then L.Kezz (my mate) and DJ1spikey are all the main posters off this site!

Cheers

Joe

Think Av worked on P.1360 about 8 year ago .. It was loading them TR100's out when they were new (16** numbers .. Been a while) Good unit and the best looking RH120 ..

That 200 is the first ever machine produced as well ... Just shows the pull RJB use to have ..
