Rutland Railway Museum

Post #1 by Jeremy Rowland » Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:24 am

Early in August I visited this site which is an old ironstone railway and quarry.
There are no passenger trains at this site as it sets out to recreate an old ironstone quarry.

The website address is: http://www.rutlandrailwaymuseum.org.uk/

There are some very interesting items of plant there and they do run a 22RB face shovel machine although at the time of my visit this was not in operation.
There are two 22RB machines there, the other being a drag line and also an old Lima machine. They have one of the old cabs from the famous "Sundew" Ransome & Rapier W1400 walking dragline which was at the time the largest in the world and sell a book telling the fascinating story of its epic walk from Exton to Corby which I think was around 13miles or so
This place is well worth a look round but would be better if you phoned first to make sure there was an event or some activity going on.
Enjoy.

Jeremy :D
