I know this unit is on the small side of the mining spectrum, but it's been a while since anything was posted to this topic. All though there are no external markings, it is S/N 6015B004. It was somewhat close to me for a two-week production study. Sorry for no photos of it working, but they were not permitted by the company hosting the study.
In my opinion it looks like a modded 5110B, but the corporate Caterpillar guys insist it's "all new".

John it certainly stands a good chance of being modelled on the old 5110B it would be a logical progression; thanks for sharing.

It is "all" new, however the upper frame is based on the 5110B.
Should be a welcome update to the RH40E / 6015 which hasn't been updated - apart from a different colour paint and engine - since around 1994.

Hi Dave,
Yes its a complete ground up redesign of the RH40 which compared to the competition is a bit of a dinosaur.
The 6020B is a fresh design also pitched at the PC2000 & EX1800 market, it will be released later this year.

Thanks SB - very interesting!
I wonder to what extent the old O&K designers were involved in this development (big change in design for them) - or was it designed by CAT in the US?

I'm surprised in a way because when cat stopped making the 5130 and 5230 I thought the strategy was to buy-in the o&k designs instead of in-house development.
Maybe it was the larger machine designs (RH120-400) that they wanted?

Re: Caterpillar 6015B field follow unit
My understanding was that they quit the big excavator market because their share was too small to justify the R and D and manufacturing costs. The later acquisition of O and K was a good move because they bought a going concern with popular and saleable products already in the market place with all of the back room stuff to boot! Shrewd I'd say.
