Menck Electric Quarry Shovel in Australia?

Post #1 by FatCatGotHot » Sun Jan 05, 2014 3:27 pm

Hi folks,

how about this? In 1950, two Menck Model EN quarry shovels were deliverd to Sydney, Australia.

The Model EN was developed 1937/38 and was a 3 motor electric driven face shovel with a 5 m³ dipper. First units started loading iron ore in Austria(not Australia!) in 1938. The EN was one of Mencks biggest machines until production stopped in 1956 after 16 units built. It had an operating weight of 211,000 kgs and 583 HP, ripping force at the bucket teeth was abaout 66,000 kgs. For some photos click here:http://www.baumaschinenbilder.de/forum/thread.php?threadid=6837

Now back to the two above mentioned machines shipped to Australia: Customer was Gilbert J McCaul of Blue Metal Quarries / Blue Metal and Gravel, Wentworthville. Who has additional information on these two shovels - or even photos?
Thanks for any answers,

Cheers, Max
