BTD6 with Overloader

Post #1 by JimInOz » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:47 am

Hi All,
I had a call from a bloke yesterday who tells me he has a BTD6 with an overloader .
I'm wondering if this thing was fitted with the loader here(Australia),or back in the UK.
I've never seen any IH overloaders here,& never seen any pictures of BTD6 with this style of loader.I've seen a few pictures of TD6 & 9,but not BTD6.
Was there a firm in the UK that fitted these things?

Any thoughts are welcome...

Hi Jim,
These overloaders were made for the BTD6,they were called the Anthony Hamilton Overloader and I remember them being avalable here in late 1950s.
I only ever saw one and never saw that at work, I immagine they were a "pain in the neck" to opperate.
I found these photos, I think they came from your part of the world.

HI Fred& Graham,
Thanks for the informative input.I vaguely remember hearing the name Anthony, but know nothing about them.
The bloke I spoke to was wondering if the BTD6 was worth keeping...I told him it was possibly a rarity.
I often wonder how many operators got hurt by rocks that rolled over the sides of those overloaders.....& I wonder about the scary noise above your head as the loader goes fore to aft.

BTW,..the brochure mentions a BT6.....what is that?Is it a gas engined version.?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim and Martyn,
I don't need to search the net. The BT6 was the Brittish made version of the American gas TVO engined T6.

Learn something new everyday Fred. Can't have been many of them made. They are not shown on my list of tractors. There was a good T6 sold in Cornwall, same place I have picked all the Drott spares from.
Got 6 starter motors now,see if one fits my TD6.

I've never heard of a BT6 either...strange how something like that can bypass you for decades!Martyn, keep yer eyes peeled..you may need to add one to your collection. With regard to the BTD6 Parts Book,my book mentions "BT6 Parts Catalogue" at the top of the front cover....I think this is the PART NUMBER for the manual.

OK...anyone ever had any dealings with a BT6??I wonder what engine was used....

On the topic of the Anthony Overloader,do you blokes see a few of them,or are they quite rare too?

Hello again Jim
These machines are very rare, I don't know of any surviving over here.
The HamiltonCo. made dozing equipment for IH tractors and Anthony Hoist produced hydraulic tipping gears for lorrys. I may be wrong but I always thought these companies were something to do with the Anthony-Hamilton loader :?: :?:
I remember the engine which was made at Doncaster, UK. from the Farmall BM wheel tractor, I think it was a good unit.
I think the BT6 was only made from 1953 to 1955.
Heres the spec., Hope this helps.

Hello Fred
see the vapourising engine is 247 cu. inch to the diesel being a 264 cu inch.
Will be checking the starters for the TD6,got 6 starters, two have the smaller pinions that may do the job.Keeping my fingers crossed.
Martyn
