Hello,
I had quite a lot to do with David Brown tractors and crawlers (1960's). I had a 50ITD with Blaw- Knox blade, and I used and worked on various 30 TD models with and without blade.
I never had anything to do with the shovel versions tho, and I've recently been researching them. I know the Meiler shovel was fitted to the 30ITD and 50ITD and the Merton overloader had been fitted to them too, but heres one for Scooby, something different.
I came across this in a magazine ths week.
It is based on a 50ITD. The editorial says it was built by David Browns under licence from John Austin Co. Denver USA. and was available from 1956 to 1960.
The tractor had extended 6 roller track frames and the hydraulicaly controled bucket could discharge to front rear or side!!!
I wonder how that worked? How many were made?
Fred

It is not unlike the set up of the Weatherill and Bray had with load-over machines. I would imagine they were a pig to operate, all that twisting around to see.
Is that a Fordson based Muir Hill dumber?

Nice pic Fred I must say that there is something that looks very disturbing about dumping a load over your head It just doesn't look right.
Definately something different though.

Re: David Brown Crawler Loaders (something different)
Hello
Thanks for the replies, Yes Pete that is a Muir Hill 10B Fordson based 3yd. dumper.
So what is different about this D-B machine???
Unlike the Weatherall, Bray, Bristol, International (Anthony Hamilton) and several other overchute loaders I can bring to mind which had fixed buckets, this David Brown has the facility to crowd the bucket and tip forward as well as over the back.
OK, so John Deere, Hanomag and a few others had this facility too but I know of no other machine which can side tip as well without modification.
"One bucket front, rear and side discharge".
I agree any overloader must have been a nightmare machine to operate, very tireing.

Hi Daniel,
Heres a pic. of an International overloader with a fixed bucket which might answer your question.
Allmost every manufacturer tried the overloader in the 1950s snd some did have hydraulic bucket tilt, but this was usualy so that they could tip forward as well as back.

Hi All,
This rare david Brown 50ITD loader turned up in a Cheffins Sale recently. I think it made £9,300.

Hi Craig,
Yes, the DB 50s are well sought after by collectors.
The shovel is very rare. I saw a nice basic original condition 50TD crawler go for £13,000 at
Malvern last year and an original unrestored 50D wheel version made £29,000 in the same sale.
I mentioned on here before, I bought a 50TD with Blaw Knox blade in 1959/60 which had been reworked by DB at their Meltham works for £1,440.
How things have changed
Fred
