Taurus photo hopefully!

Post #1 by taurus MK1 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 9:42 pm

Hi, my first attempt of posting a photo. This is my faithful Bristol Taurus MK1 on its usual pollarding of willows. I have had her for many a year, the tracks are shot, but everthing else functions fine. I serviced her up when i first had her, all filters, oils etc. The Boughton winch comes into its own pulling timber across a stream. I think she would be 1963/64, anyway hope this is of interest.

Cheers John :D :D

Cracking little machine there John.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they have a Perkins P3 engine?
In the early '70s a contractor cleared a lot of gorsey/rough ground for my father with a Taurus but his had a blade also had 3pt. links & a PTO to drive a Bush-hog.

:D Hi Richard, Happy New Year,

Engine fitted in the Taurus MK1/MK2 was the faithful Perkins 3.152TA. The agricultural version had a shorter track frame which is the norm, and 3 point linkage and PTO was offered as optional eqpt.on the ag version. I know of a very nice ag version not far from here, but it has no linkage.

By any chance have you got any photos of Ag. specs with blades?....if I remember right his had a single blade ram mounted on the top centre of the nose/rad. cone......and I am sure it had a kind of cab too.
One of my biggest regrets is not taking more photos when I was younger!!!

Caravan site i used to visit had a tidy little Bristol Taurus dozer with neat little cable controlled towed scraper (Onions?) about 3 or 4 cu yds.The owner had shifted 1000s of cube with it as his site consisted of a deep railway cutting he had bought and then cut off the sides into steps for the caravans. Brave man.
Not all those who wander are lost.

Reply to Richards question ref.pictures of dozer, i only have picture as in org.literature, now thats going to take a while to fathom out how to get it on here, so bear with me. What i can tell you from the brochure for a dozer,is it has two rams that are mounted on the cast nose cone. The cab as per usual was a tin box!!!

Cheers John Ps.someone else must own a Taurus MK1???????????
