Bristol Taurus Barn Find

Post #1 by Steelfab » Sun Mar 27, 2016 12:23 pm

Hi all, I've just picked up a Bristol Taurus which I have have been after for many years from and been stored in a barn for the later part of its life. Its in good condition for its age and came with a cab which had been removed some years ago and stored undercover also in good condition. The machine serial number is 20197 which is a Mark 1 from what I have gathered on the net so far.

I know very little about these machines as am used to restoring JCB backhoes and Steelfab diggers but have some questions which I hope other owners will know the answers to.

1. Does anyone have any new or good second hand spares (undercarriage parts, hoses, pins, bushes etc)
2. Is it BSP thread on the hydraulic hoses?
3. Where to get replacement clutch and brake parts (one side the brake is a bit weak)
4. Anyone have an operators and parts manual for it?
5. What is the hydraulic filter part number or type?

The levers are quite loose and worn but that should be straight forward to rebush and pin which is going to be one of my first jobs, but when raising the loader arms it is quite jerky as if there is no hydraulic oil the system like it is cavitating. Also the spool sticks. Any ideas what this could be? Also there seems to be an accumulator how do you go about testing or changing this?

Any help is much appreciated and If you would like prefer to speak to me my number is 07989 589784

Regards Julian

Nice one Julian :claphands: I would guess that Fred 'Fowlerman' Evans may be able to offer you some advice on this machine? Good luck with this one its your first tracked machine

Most decent motor factors will reline clutch and brake shoes.

Ive answered most of my earlier questions and the restoration has started and going well so far. I am having difficulty finding where to get replacement parts for the track rollers which are worn. Anyone got any spares or know where to get them?

Mike I see Julian from time to time and this one is in the queue to be restored, although hopefully not too long to wait now, Julian does have a lot on his plate at the minute.
