MF 300 Engine removal??

Post #1 by smokey2480 » Tue Jul 08, 2014 11:57 am

hi
Hoping to get a idea on how hard replacing a engine in a MF 300 really is
the engine spun a bearing on start up
from my limited knowledge the engine is a throw away.

my main queries are the engine removal?

the engine itself would be fixed by a mechanic

can the crank be removed and repaired with the engine in the machine?

and anyone know if rebuild kits are available??

im in Northern NSW AUSTRALIA

cheers

Hi and welcome  I would say that firstly you are looking at an engine out job because even if was possible or feasible to remove the crank with the engine still in situ you would find that the engine block will have been damaged where the main bearing has spun round.

This sort of damage can be repaired by a specialist machining service but the cost may be more expensive than the machine is worth, plus there is always a chance that the heat generated by the spun bearing may have cracked the crankshaft; I have seen this before as at one time I worked for somebody who did specialise in this type of repair work.

I would try and get another engine if you can and keep what you have left for spare parts.

You might pick up a similar running Perkins elsewhere.A rebuild will cost a lot.
Call me on 0428596600 for info .

They are easy to remove, done one years ago after the machine took a dip in Cockwood habour Devon. Had to rebuild the engine
