Post #1 by canaldrifter » Fri Jan 27, 2012 12:51 am

Came across this on t'internet.

Place, King Street, Hull.

Any advance on mid 1960s?

Any guesses as to how far he might have got before that beam fell off? What Is it resting on and how is it secured?

Hi Tony

Looks like a older works traveling crane of riveted construction so a bit of weight to it. Its sat on steel tressels like the steel delivery wagons often have to get long loads over the cab (not as common now with artics) The usually have upstands on the ends to stop stuff sliding off but it will have a chain over as well. Looks as if the trailers operating with a dolly under the filth wheel or is a German style trailer with turntable as its being pulled by a tractor unit with ballast box via a drawbar to allow for the front overhang.

Hi Pete
I think it may be a bit later as street lamp looks like its all steel so id say perhaps early 70's
