Great pictures. When I started work at Cat's Glasgow plant in the early 60's there was a transport company running Mack artics who used to bring steel and castings into the plant and also collect buckets, blades and ripper parts from Cat's Birtley plant at Newcastle to be shipped out from Glasgow. Can't be sure of the company's name but A1 Roadways seems to ring a bell!
Does anyone remember this company or have any pics of these Macks in action?

A few old Macks in black and white, an AC from 1937 from brochure from the Mack Museum and some B's from the 1950's-60's
from Thomas Warths Photo Archive book on the B Series.

Crane equipped AC working on the Lincoln Tunnel site, late 1937, the tunnel connects New Jersey and Manhattan under the Hudson River

This would be P & S (Contracts), Baillieston, Glasgow, I think they also had a depot at Rotherham, I used to see them delivering steel into International
Combustion at Derby.

I got in touch with the Mack Museum and they sent me some photocopies from the chassis records at Mack, of the ones P & S purchased, the destination code on them is M100 which is a dealership in Manchester, but I have been unable to establish who they were.

They also ran some R609RS 6 wheeler units as well, and they sent me details of those chassis records as well.

Jeremy it has a Maxidyne 6 cylinder Mack motor 320 hp but a flat torque curve I think its about 1050 lbs torque from 2100 rpm down to say 850- 900 rpm they pull like you wouldnt believe even at gross weight dont get me wrong you see a big hill you will be back thru gears real quick but as a single trailer at 42.5 tons I have hardly ever got to shift a stick just got to split top gear it will stay in top gear full load down to around 50km/h not a problem
