Neversweat, those AEC overdrive Box's were the " Creme Dell'A Month" I used to love them in the Routmans, the Scammels not the Bus things.
Julian it may have a Dana Spicer clutch fitted, they work the same as the Lipe Clutch, a pull clutch design, but they adjust by removing/undoing a lock tab and screwing the adjuster plate inwards towards the flywheel, again its about the same gap from the release bearing face to the brake, oh and dont be scared to grease this bearing, you will se the tit for the gun.

Jeremy and Tony, I've got two words for the pair of you - bloody brilliant :) :) :)

I don't know what clutch it is but the cover plate had ''Eaton'' stamped on it.

Anyhow, undid 9/16th headed screw and removed a forked locking tab, got wife to depress clutch and levered the adjuster plate around clockwise for three or four increments. Checked for free play at the release arm fork and to gearbox mounted clutch brake, refitted the lock tab and gave it a whirl - works absolutely fine now! You can depress the clutch and engage a gear (when at a standstill) in about 2 seconds now rather than wait for ages for the input shaft to slowly come to a stop.

I can see how the clutch brake works now. No more having to stop the engine to engage a gear at traffic lights now  I also gave the release bearing a greasing!

Thanks Julian.

i think fodens where one of the best trucks suited to the construction industry, always thought they were a tough wagon..

just about all the local haulage and plant companies around me all run fodens, leylands, dafs and the occasional ERF still!!
